چکیده

This paper describes an implementation of a bandpass sigma-delta modulator behavioral model with SIMPLORER VHDL-AMS. The model includes most of the non-idealities which affect the performance of the component, such as sampling jitter, kT/C noise and operational amplifier parameters. A comparison with another model, implemented with MATLABSIMULINK by Brigati et al., is made to highlight and validate the proposed model. The spectrum plot and the Power Spectral Density of the output signal is also presented to evaluate the characteristics of the modulator. Simulation results obtained using a second-order band-pass sigma-delta modulator demonstrate the validity of the model by the mean of estimating signal-to-noise and distortion ratios. Keywords— Sigma Delta Analog-Digital Converter; Band-pass Modulator; Simplorer VHDL-AMS; Power Spectral Density; Non-idealities Effects.

VHDL-AMS Modeling of Continuous-Time Complex Bandpass Delta Sigma Modulator

Abstrac tContinuous-Time delta sigma modulators (CT ∆ΣM), by their nature, are mixed-signal systems. That fact creates a discontinuity in the traditional IC design flow which assumes that “discrete” and “continuous” time domain designs require separate design tools. In this work, we present a top level behavioral approach of modeling CT complex Bandpass (CBP) ∆ΣM using VHDL-AMS language. The CT...

VHDL-AMS Behavioral Modeling of High-Speed Continuous-Time Delta-Sigma Modulator

An advanced design methodology using a combination of behavioral models and transistor level models is presented in this paper. This methodology is very interesting for complex mixed-signal IC design, reducing the simulation time and improving the design flexibility. In order to validate the methodology proposed, a High-Speed Bandpass Continuous-Time Delta-Sigma Modulator is modeled. This modul...

Nonidealities Study of a Continuous-Time Delta-Sigma Modulator Using VHDL-AMS Modelling

In this paper, a complete high-speed Continuous-Time Bandpass Delta-Sigma modulator for digital receiver applications is modeled, using VHDL-AMS. The main Continuous-Time DeltaSigma modulator’s nonidealities such as excess loop delay, clock jitter and multi-bit feedback DAC element mismatch in the modulator loop are also modeled and their effects evaluated. An accurate understanding of these no...

Behavioral Modeling and Simulation of Cascade Multibit ΣΔ Modulator for Multistandard Radio Receiver

In this paper, a cascade Sigma-Delta (ΣΔ) Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) for multistandard radio receiver was presented. This converter is supposed to be able to support GSM, UMTS, Wifi and WiMAX communication standards. The Sigma-Delta modulator makes use of 4 bit quantizer and Data-Weighted-Averaging (DWA) technique to attain high linearity over a wide bandwidth. A top-down design methodol...
